SFFS: Snippet of “A Brief Discussion”

Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday

Welcome back to another Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday!

Are you getting psyched over Star Wars: Episode VII opening in a couple of months? As involved as I was with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game in the past, I am surprisingly not that excited about it…yet. I need to work on this.

Today’s contribution continues the series of snippets from a deleted scene from my fourth book, ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE.

In the last post, Anna prepared to give Kate the speech almost every human gets as a young teen: “The Birds and The Bees”.

If you wish to read the entire series up to this point, you can catch up here:

A Brief Discussion, Part 6

And now, here is this week’s snippet. Enjoy!

Anna waved a hand in the air. “Never mind. For the sake of arguments, I’ll just sum it up and say men and women are two distinct genders of humans. Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus.”
“But, I thought humans were from Earth.”
  “They are.”
“But, you just stated you’re from two different planets. How did humanity survive that way?”
Anna scrunched her brow over her nose. “What?”
Kate squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. “I don’t understand what you’re saying. What do you mean by that?”

SFFS: Snippet of “A Brief Discussion”

Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday

Welcome back to another Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday!

Nothing witty or profound to read here. These aren’t the words you’re looking for. You can go about your business. Move along.

Today’s contribution continues the series of snippets from a deleted scene from my fourth book, ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE.

In the last post, Anna informed Kate that humans actually have two genders. Despite having a computer mind, Kate is still having troubles comprehending some of the terminology involved.

Kate’s brow furrowed deeper. “So, they’re males.”
  “Yes.”
“Am I missing something?” Kate leaned back against the wall and folded her arms across each other.
  “Yes. Let me explain.”
Anna stepped toward the synthesizer. She raised a fist to her mouth and cleared her throat. “I never expected to talk to you about the birds and the bees.”
“I thought we were talking about men.”
A jittery laugh escaped Anna’s lips. “We are. What I’m about to say we call ‘the birds and the bees’.”
Kate’s eyes darted from side to side, and her lips remained parted a fraction.

SFFS: Snippet of “A Brief Discussion”

Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday

Welcome back to another Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday!

Summer is gone, and a new autumn has begun. It’s strange that it still feels like spring. It doesn’t stop raining. I almost feel like I’m back in Seattle, only without the Space Needle, the mountains, the sea, and the people who support and enjoy science fiction. Okay, maybe it doesn’t feel like Seattle. It’s more like a really soggy Missouri.

Today’s contribution continues the series of snippets from a deleted scene from my fourth book, ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE.

In the last post, Kate dropped a bombshell on Anna, revealing her belief that humans had only one gender.

If you wish to read the entire series up to this point, you can catch up here:

And now, here is this week’s snippet. Enjoy!

“What?” A short laugh punctuated Anna’s response. “Why would you think that?”
“In all the times I’ve been active, I’ve only interacted with one human: you. With little information on file about humans as a race, I can only assume humans are a mono-gender race.”
Anna smiled in spite of the situation. “No, humans have two genders: male and female.” She pointed toward Kate and herself. “We’re female.”
“But, I thought they were men.”
  “They are.”
“But, you just called them male.”
  “Right.”
