SFFS: Snippet of “A Brief Discussion”

Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday

Welcome back to another Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday!

Are you getting psyched over Star Wars: Episode VII opening in a couple of months? As involved as I was with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game in the past, I am surprisingly not that excited about it…yet. I need to work on this.

Today’s contribution continues the series of snippets from a deleted scene from my fourth book, ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE.

Cover for 'Alone in the Universe'

In the last post, Anna prepared to give Kate the speech almost every human gets as a young teen: “The Birds and The Bees”.

If you wish to read the entire series up to this point, you can catch up here:
A Brief Discussion, Part 1
A Brief Discussion, Part 2
A Brief Discussion, Part 3
A Brief Discussion, Part 4
A Brief Discussion, Part 5
A Brief Discussion, Part 6

And now, here is this week’s snippet. Enjoy!

Anna waved a hand in the air. “Never mind. For the sake of arguments, I’ll just sum it up and say men and women are two distinct genders of humans. Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus.”
“But, I thought humans were from Earth.”
  “They are.”
“But, you just stated you’re from two different planets. How did humanity survive that way?”
Anna scrunched her brow over her nose. “What?”
Kate squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. “I don’t understand what you’re saying. What do you mean by that?”

Thank you for taking the time to read my snippet! Please take another moment to leave a comment with your thoughts and feedback. To read the SFFSaturday contributions from other authors, please click here.

  1. Peter Vialls says:

That’s not helping, Anna – Kate’s too literal to get the metaphors!

  2. S.A. Check says:

“Who’s on second?” “Third base?” Fun exchange between the two.

  3. Pippa Jay says:

Now there’s an interesting idea – stick the separate genders on different planets…
