Welcome back to another Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday!
Before I let you dive into the first of several snippets planned over the next couple of months, I need to inform you about some changes coming soon for the company hosting my site. Since 1997, I have hosted my websites through Geocities, which was purchased by Yahoo a couple of years later. I have just learned that the web hosting services are being handed over to another company. At this point, I do not know what will happen to the functionality of my site. I hope to find out over the next few weeks, before the service is fully under their control.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the reason why you’re here. Today’s contribution to SFFS is the first of a series of clips from a deleted scene from my fourth book.
This deleted scene, which never got sent to the editor, takes place before the beginning of Chapter 15. In the preceding chapter, Kate had been sent out by Anna on a personal mission. This scene starts with Anna waiting for Kate to return to their ship.
And without further ado, here is this week’s snippet. Enjoy!
Anna stood next to the airlock door inside the ship, tapping her foot with her arms crossed across her chest. With her brow furrowed and a frown on her face, she glanced at the bridge again before returning her eyes to the hatch. Where can she be?
Several seconds passed with only the mild breeze blowing through the hexagonal vent near the ceiling and the repetitive tapping from her foot breaking the silence. The slight hum from the lift entered the symphony of sound, replacing Anna’s foot solo. She dropped her arms to her side and directed her gaze to the airlock window. The hum grew louder, until the door slid open.
“Kate!” Anna rushed toward her with open arms.
Kate grinned and welcomed Anna’s embrace. “Hi, Anna.”
They hugged for several seconds. Anna wanted to hold her forever and never let her out of her sight again. Breaking away after a moment, she leaned back and gazed at Kate. “I’m never letting you go out alone again.”
